To show you what you captured on today’s date, the app has to search every past year of your library for that date. With limited access, iOS only lets it see the handful of items you picked, so it can’t find the rest.

Your photos are processed on your device and are never uploaded. You can change the app’s access at any time in the iOS Settings app, under Privacy & Security → Photos.

Nothing is deleted while you swipe. At the end of a review you confirm the whole batch once, using the standard iOS delete confirmation.

Confirmed items go to the Recently Deleted album in the Photos app, the same as deleting them in Photos. You can restore them from there for 30 days, after which iOS removes them permanently.

It’s a running total of how much you’ve sent to Recently Deleted using reviewOTD. It isn’t the amount of storage freed: iOS only frees that space when items are removed from Recently Deleted, either when you empty it yourself or after 30 days.

The total is kept in your own iCloud (iCloud key-value storage) so it carries over between your devices. We can’t see it.

Reminders are optional and arrive at most once a day. You might not get one because:

• you have no photos or videos from today’s date in past years;
• today is one of your protected dates;
• notifications for reviewOTD are turned off in the iOS Settings app; or
• a Focus mode is silencing notifications.

Probably not. It usually means you have no photos or videos from today’s date in past years, or that today is a protected date. When you’ve finished a day, you can use “Review another day” to jump to a random past date that has media and that you haven’t reviewed in the last six months or so.

If you expected to see items, check that reviewOTD has full access to your Photos library in the iOS Settings app, and that the media filter isn’t set to photos only or videos only.

Open the protected dates section of the app and add the date you want left alone, such as a loved one’s birthday. Protected dates are recurring: that month and day will never be offered for review, in any year, and you won’t get reminders for it. You can protect as many dates as you like and remove them again at any time.
